Aged 50, has spent all his working life in the brewing industry. Trained as a pupil brewer on the original copper brewery at the Greenall Whitley Warrington Brewery. Gained a Masters degree in Brewing Technology at Birmingham University and returned to Warrington to design and commission the most technically advanced brewery in Europe
. In 1973 worked with Alpha - Laval to develop a unique continuous brewery with the aim of linking this to the existing continuous fermentation plant. This was unique in the world.
In 1976 commissioned the worlds first continuous wort boiling system saving 20 % of a brewery's energy consumption. This was followed by a highly acclaimed lecture tour of the EEC and North America .
In 1989/90 worked with John Labatt of Canada to produce the first Labatt Canadian Lager in the UK and subsequently going on to train Brewers from other companies to produce this quality product.
In 1990 , the owner of the Greenalls brewery made the irrational decision to quit brewing and it fell to the sad lot of Neil to close the brewing operations of what was now the largest Independant brewery in the UK. Working closely with Allied Breweries staff the beers were faithfully replecated and the sad task of ending two centuries of brewing traddition was accomlished with dignity.
Having made everybody else redundant , Neil finally did it to himself and was the last person to leave the brewery.
After a lot of reflection Neil and his wife decided to go back to his roots and leave the Marketing queers and the grey accountants behind and to start a brewery based on honesty. A brewery brewing natural beers of quality and character. The Coach House Brewery was born , and as the record shows has gone on to win all of the national awards for excellence.
As a result of this success it became a natural step to share this knowledge and experience with other brewers and eventually a consultancy was born. A working partnership with and old brewing friend of considerable experience has produced this unique partnership of brewing skills , business accumen , and acces to finacial funding and advice.
